Digitally Designed Composite Veneers in Hanwell

When several front teeth need reshaping rather than repairing, I design the new shapes digitally first and then hand-finish them in composite at the chair. £550 a tooth, at Sparkle Dental in Hanwell, London W7 — close to Hanwell station on the Elizabeth line, one stop from West Ealing. No laboratory wait, and in most cases nothing cut away.

What a composite veneer is — and what it is not

A composite veneer is a new front surface and edge for a tooth, built in tooth-coloured resin and finished by hand in the chair. It is thicker and more complete than edge bonding, which repairs part of a tooth, and it is thinner and less invasive than a porcelain veneer, which is made in a laboratory and usually needs some enamel removed.

I call them digitally designed because the shapes are decided on screen from your photographs and your scan before I pick up an instrument. That is the part that separates a set of veneers that look like teeth from a set that look like a row of identical tiles. Nothing is printed or milled at the chair and nothing is manufactured on the day — the design is digital, the finishing is by hand.

Designed on screen before anything touches a tooth

At your assessment I take clinical photographs and a 3D scan. From those I design the new tooth shapes — length, width, the curve along the edges, how much each tooth shows when you smile and when you talk — and we look at that design together on screen. You see the proposal before you agree to it, and you can ask for a tooth to be longer or softer or squarer while it costs nothing to change.

Only then do we book the appointment. By the time you are in the chair the shape is already decided, which is what makes a long appointment calm rather than improvised.

Bonding, composite veneers or porcelain?

01

Composite bonding — £350 a tooth

Repair work. A chip, a worn edge, a small gap. Adds to what is already there, usually in one appointment, often with no anaesthetic.

02

Digitally designed composite veneers — £550 a tooth

Reshaping work. The whole visible surface and edge redesigned across several teeth as a set, for shape, proportion and colour rather than damage. Done in Hanwell.

03

Porcelain veneers — £950 a tooth

The longest-lasting and most colour-stable option, made in a laboratory and fitted over two stages. Planned here if it suits you, fitted in Cookham where the longer appointments are.

Porcelain veneers

Which of the three is right is a clinical decision, not a budget decision, and it is the main thing your assessment is for. I will tell you if the cheaper option gives you the better result, because it often does.

£550 per tooth, and what that covers

Digitally designed composite veneers are £550 per tooth in Hanwell. That includes the digital design, the clinical photographs and scan, the hand finishing, the polish, and a review visit a few weeks later.

Veneers are planned as a set, not one at a time, because proportion is the whole point — four, six, eight or ten teeth depending on how much of your smile shows. You get the exact total in writing at your assessment, with the price fixed for three months. 0% finance through Tabeo for up to 12 months, subject to status.

The Full Assessment is £95 and comes off your treatment if you go ahead.

Who it suits, and who it does not

Composite veneers suit people whose front teeth are sound but the wrong shape: too short, too narrow, uneven in width, worn across the set, or slightly rotated in a way that shaping can disguise. They suit people who want the result reversible in principle, with little or no enamel removed. And they suit people who would rather not wait on a laboratory.

They are not the answer for heavily discoloured teeth that need the opacity of porcelain, for crowding that really needs the teeth moved, for a heavy grinding habit until that has been managed, or for anyone with active gum disease or untreated decay. Composite also stains faster than porcelain and will want refreshing after several years rather than lasting indefinitely — typically five to seven years with good care.

If porcelain is the better answer for you, I will say so at the assessment, and it is planned in Hanwell and fitted in Cookham.

Coming from Ealing, Southall or West London

Hanwell station is on the Elizabeth line: one stop east to West Ealing, two to Ealing Broadway, one west to Southall. A set of composite veneers is an assessment, a long appointment and a review, so being a short train ride away genuinely matters.

By car, Hanwell is just off the Uxbridge Road (A4020), with the A40 and the North Circular nearby. Ask about parking when you book.

Porcelain and staged cases are done in Cookham

Porcelain veneers, Invisalign, implants and full smile design are staged over months and need longer, more frequent appointments. Those are done at St Anne's House Dental Practice in Cookham, Maidenhead, where I have worked longest. Hanwell is for the composite work that fits comfortably into a visit or two.

Questions from Hanwell patients

What is the difference between composite bonding and composite veneers?

Bonding repairs part of a tooth — a chip, a worn edge, a small gap — and is £350 a tooth. A composite veneer redesigns the whole visible surface and edge, across several teeth planned as a set, and is £550 a tooth. Same material, different amount of design and chair time.

Are they made in the surgery on the day?

The design is digital and is done before your appointment; the veneers themselves are built up and finished by hand on your teeth at the chair. Nothing is manufactured, printed or milled on the day, and nothing goes to a laboratory.

How much do composite veneers cost in Hanwell?

£550 per tooth, including the digital design, clinical photographs and scan, the hand finishing and a review visit. Sets are usually four to ten teeth depending on how much of your smile shows. The exact total is in your written plan, fixed for three months. 0% finance through Tabeo for up to 12 months, subject to status.

How long do composite veneers last?

Typically five to seven years with good care, then refreshing or replacing rather than a permanent fix. Grinding, and heavy coffee, red wine or tobacco, shorten that. Porcelain lasts longer and holds its colour better, which is why I will sometimes recommend it even though it costs more.

Will my teeth be drilled?

In most composite veneer cases little or no enamel is removed, which is the main argument for doing it this way. Occasionally a small amount of reshaping is needed to make the proportions work, and if that is the case I will show you exactly where and why on screen before you agree to anything.

Should I whiten or straighten first?

If you want whiter teeth, whitening comes first and the veneers are matched to the new shade — composite does not whiten afterwards. If the teeth are crowded, aligners first will give a better and more conservative result than disguising it in resin; aligner treatment is done at my Cookham practice.
